Afternoon Tea At Gran Caffe Londra – Knighstbridge, London

When people normally think about having an afternoon tea experience their first thought is to look at hotels and their formal dining rooms. Whilst there are many fabulous options they usually have a nice price tag to match. What if I told you I have found one that has equally tasty food but is great value too? I enjoyed my visit to Gran Caffe Londra so much I just had to share it with you. Prices at the hotels generally start around £50 per person, at Gran Caffe Londra ours was priced at £24 each including a glass of bubbly  Situated in Knightsbridge directly opposite that world famous department store Harrods, where incidentally I used to work, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Start as you mean to go on is my motto so first up a glass of bubbles to sip as we chose which tea we would like brewed. I typically went for the English Breakfast tea which was good although I prefer a ceramic pot. The afternoon tea was served up on black slate, a nice alternative to a cake stand and the amount of goodies we were presented with was outstanding. Luckily we had arrived hungry. The sandwiches were each made with different types of freshly baked bread and there was a tasty variety of fillings from smoked salmon, coronation chicken, cucumber, pastrami……..

I am a savoury person but most people I know look forward to the sweet part of an afternoon tea the most. What arrived on the table was a mouth-watering array of mini desserts and pastries. The raisin scones were the biggest I’ve seen accompanied with freshly whipped ream and raspberry preserve. There were also mini macarons, mille fueille, chocolate mousses, raspberries, strawberries, fruit tarts……. I think it’s just best you check out the photo below…….

As you can see, we were treated to a veritable afternoon tea feast.

The restaurant was buzzing with fellow customers and had a really nice vibe about it. Tastefully decorated in gold and ivory the setting reminds me of the gran caffes along the Champs Elysee in Paris. The staff were friendly and attentive and what can I say about the afternoon tea? As far as getting value for money this one tops the leader board. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and next time I’m visiting my old work colleagues next door I will be making a beeline here for more tasty treats!
