Gin Afternoon Tea at the Strand Palace Hotel, London
Afternoon tea is a wonderful English tradition that is enjoyed the world over. It shouldn’t just be saved as a way to treat mum on Mothers day though, afternoon tea is a treat anytime of year no matter whether you are celebrating or just because. My latest find at The Strand Palace Hotel is not the most expensive in London but it IS great value for money. The Strand Palace Hotel has a few different types of tea experiences available and the one I tried made the most of English gins.

Afternoon Tea Package
The Gin High Tea is presented in the appropriately named Gin Palace Bar situated within the main foyer of the hotel. With high-backed chairs and the use of plush, rich colours it was a lovely setting for our afternoon of gin and tea delights. As I wrote earlier this afternoon tea experience is reasonably priced at £29.95 per person and includes a choice of Gin cocktail as part of the package.
Using a combination of gins matched to different teas there are 5 specially designed cocktails to choose from. I chose the Berry Heart – Brockmans Gin infused with Wild Berry & Persian Pomegranate Tea. My guest who is more classically inclined chose the Gin Palace Tea – Hendrincks Gin, Fresh Mint Tea with Cucumber Ribbons and Apple Juice. Both served in long glasses were refreshing although we both agreed the classic cocktail was our favourite.
Traditional finger sandwiches, some with a modern twist. This is my favourite part of a tea, I’m all about the sandwiches, my friend is all about the cakes. Served on a modern circular display stand you can expect Cucumber and Cream Cheese, Egg Mayonnaise with Cress, Shredded Chicken & Preserved Lemon and Beetroot Gravlax with Juniper on Rye Bread. The beetroot gravalax was excellent as was the chicken and lemon. The remainder were tasty although I like a bit more filling in my sandwiches.
Cakes and Scones
For many cakes are pivotal to a successful afternoon tea. Expect Hand-made Bakewell Tart, Raspberry & Juniper Infused Shot, Victoria Sponge with Strawberry Jam, Blueberry & Lemon Tart and Chocolate Cup with a Vanilla & Mocha Mousse. The scones were light and fluffy with a nice crumbly texture although we did ask for more jam and cream which was not a problem at all, we like to pile it on 🙂
If you’re looking for a lovely atmosphere and setting with friendly, courteous service, great price point and centrally located for theatreland and restaurants then the Strand Palace Hotel‘s Gin Afternoon Tea is definitely worth checking out.
