Foodie Monthly Newsletter – Reviews Of My Favourite New Products and Places

Merchants Manor Rastella Restaurant

It’s that time of the month for the latest round-up of products and places I have tried in the last 4 weeks. There is a little something for everyone including new opening of Turtle Bay, Kingston Riverside, UK S.Pellegrino Young Chef winner chosen, online shopping services from Exante and Larder Fair, a 5* afternoon tea fit for a Queen at Lanes of London and plenty more!

New Opening – Turtle Bay, Staines

I first went to a Turtle Bay restaurant a few years ago. It was quite an experience so when I found out that this fabulous Caribbean noshery was opening up near me I had to go. If you’ve never tried Caribbean food or been a bit wary of trying something new then Turtle Bay is the perfect introduction. With a vibrant, kicking atmosphere, great cocktails and lashings of hot sauce to load on your food, it is pretty awesome.

My personal favourites were pretty much any cocktail, curried goat, jerk chicken (so succulent you’d be hard pushed to find anything juicier) and the banana and toffee cheesecake. The walls are covered in graffiti-style murals and the music is rocking but not to such a degree that you can’t hold a conversation. The team behind Turtle Bay have a winning model and if I squint my eyes, pretend it’s really sunny and can hear the waves on the beach, I could just be in Montego Bay.

Kingston Riverside Re-opens After Major Refurbishment

Kingston has long been a favourite place for me to go and eat out alongside the river. It has a small town kinda feel making it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of central London. Recently the Riverside has had a multi-million pound makeover and its looking fabulous. With wider pedestrian walkways, new restaurants and a very cool vibe, I was looking forward to attending their Blogger Event. Showcasing the restaurants along the bridge end of the walkway it looked set to be a fun night. Those participating in hosting us included Cau (Argentinian), Comptoir Libanais (Lebanese), Busaba (Thai) and Cote Brasserie (French). Unfortunately Busaba dropped out at the last minute which was a shame as I love Thai and was really looking forward to trying their offerings….to read the full article click here

Afternoon Tea at Lanes of London – Park Lane

This year marks the Queen’s 90th birthday and to celebrate, Lanes of London have launched their latest afternoon tea in her Majesty’s honour. Situated on Park Lane ,Lanes of London is steeped in history and offers fantastic views onto Hyde Park and Marble Arch. The setting is chic modern yet balanced tastefully with classic features, and the archetraving in the ceilings is stunning. It is presumably well known that the Queen’s favourite drink is a gin and dubonnet cocktail so what better way to start our celebratory afternoon tea than with the very same (there is of course a variety of champagnes should you prefer or have both!). Dubonnet is a sweet, wine-based aperitif so it rounds off the bitterness of gin to make a very refreshing drink. To read the full article click here

A Trip To Cornwall Staying At Merchant’s Manor Hotel in Falmouth Bay

Life moves pretty fast these days so sometimes you just need to get away from it all and have a nice, relaxing break. I recently visited Merchants Manor down on the Cornish coast – a 4* spa hotel in Falmouth Bay that sounded like the ideal setting. Imagine a country house built at the turn of the previous century, with a wealth of history including connections to Welsh royalty and views over the sea, sounds idyllic right? New owners Sioned and Nick have been painstakingly refurbishing the house for the last 4 years. What you can’t see in this photo is how far back and wide this place is, it’s quite something. Situated on top of a hill overlooking Falmouth Bay there are some fantastic views to be had. I stayed in one of the Old Master rooms from which I enjoyed a panoramc sea view. Larder Fair

Larder Fair is an online craft food subscription service. What does that mean? Basically you top up an online account each month and then spend it when and on what you want when you’re ready. Larder Fair source fantastic products from bespoke traders and niche businesses and deliver to your door. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the products I had, my favourites being the cheeses, cured meats and smoked salmon. There are also plenty of interesting items for the store cupboard too with products from Jo and Seph, Fruition and OliveBranch to name a few. Delivery was very good arriving at it’s allotted time and everything was packed efficiently with ice bags too for the fresh products. I haven’t tried all of the products yet but look out for some of the products featuring in my recipes to come.

Exante Diet Plan

Purportedly the UK’s number one online low-cal diet, I tried this after returning from a very luxurious week in Cannes at the Film Festival. After a lot of schmoozing and eating I needed  to get back on track. There are a mixture of shakes, meals and bars etc to choose from. I lost a couple of pounds after a week and I enjoyed the prepared meals which were quite tasty. I am not much of a one for diet bars and shakes so they were not to my taste. There are several options when it comes to ordering your choice of goods online including an option for those doing the 5:2. Delivery was very good and arrived on time.

Charlie Bigham’s

Charlie Bigham’s are my favourite when it comes to buying ready-made meals. They are tasty, handmade meals for two available from supermarkets and Costa Fresco. With great ingredients and generous portion sizes these are fab if you don’t have much time to cook or are just having a lazy day. I have tried most of the dishes and not been disappointed in any of them. My favourites are the lasagne (super rich and delish), fish pie and Thai red chicken curry (v authentic flavours).

On Tuesday 21st June 2016, a panel of the UK and Ireland’s leading chefs – who hold five Michelin stars between them – named George Kataras from M Threadneedle Street as the best emerging chef talent from the UK and Ireland. The live cook-off for the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 competition was held at Waitrose Cookery School. I  was lucky enough to be invited to attend along with other influencers in the foodie community and what a treat we had in store. The emerging talent in the UK and Ireland kitchens are leading the way on the international scene. To read the full article click here
