Review – Ben’s Canteen – Earlsfield, London
If you’re in Earlsfield, London, then you need to go check out Ben’s Canteen. This is much more than a burger joint, this is a great little restaurant serving food to suit all tastebuds. They also have a unique dining experience called #tablefor10. This is where you make a reservation to dine at a communal table with other people, the intention being to interact with everyone around the table. You also receive a 10% discount on your bill.
The menu offers an eclectic mix of dishes as well as a good range of burgers for which they are known. Some dishes worthy of a special mention are the prawns, scotch egg and make-your-own guacamole. The guacamole was fun to watch as my opposite diner pounded away with the full size pestle and mortar all presented on a large chopping board. After all the starters, which we chose to share and then order more, our tums were pretty full but we pushed on with mains. My burger was good with a substantial size patty, being a carnivore this was important to me! By this time the red wine was flowing and everyone was feeling rather pleased with themselves as well as completely satiated. For most of us there just wasn’t room for dessert but from what I saw of those who did, they looked good.
All in all it was a fun night and the idea behind #tablefor10 is a great one, new friendships were definitely formed. I think the only thing I would constructively mention at this stage is the acoustics. It can get pretty noisy. That aside we enjoyed our venture to Earlsfield and would definitely go to Ben’s again if we were in the area.
