Review – The Hampton Pub – Hampton, London
If you’re a local in Hampton, you’ll know of The Hampton Pub. You may be wondering why I’m recommending it to you. When I came here a few years ago, once was enough. I never returned, until last week that is. The premises have been taken over by a whole new team and it’s all change! Under the guidance of the new owner, the place has been refurbished to a good spec with new management and staff in place. Part of ringing the changes is the new menu and the monthly Gourmet Night, which launched in April and which I shall be writing about here.
Manager and head chef Geo Bassani Lima is the man behind the revamp of the menu including the Gourmet Night extravaganza. His credentials speak for themselves as he has taken the pub from ‘worst in South East England’ to the heady heights of one of the top 10 in greater London according to TripAdvisor. Working as a head chef for a number of years he shows his experience in the food, it was very good!
Gourmet Night happens once a month on a Saturday and is fabulous value for money. At £25/head it includes a glass of bubbly and canapés on arrival followed by a 3 course dinner. There is also a duo providing lovely background music who even sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me.
The menu changes every month depending on seasons and available local produce. The attention to detail was great and as you can see from my photos below the presentation was top drawer!
There are limited numbers for Gourmet Night so if you wish to go you would be better off booking to secure your table.
The staff were very accommodating and although there was a little timing issue waiting for the main it was something of nothing. Opening night’s are challenging but great for ironing out potential teething problems. We were happy listening to the music and having a catchup, so it didn’t really concern us too much.
From the last time I was here to this visit, I would not have thought they were the same place. The food is definitely some of the best fine dining I’ve had in the borough! Geo and his team have had an extraordinary challenge to turn this place around but turn it around they have. A huge well done to them all and probably the best thing I can say is that I will definitely be back and very soon!
