Rock & Rose, Richmond – more than just a pretty place!

What to expect –
Rock & Rose is one of those local restaurants that I have been meaning to go to for a few years but something always comes up, a new opening, a menu launch in the city, life in general, you know how it goes. After all, I have heard so many good reports from followers and locals alike it was about time I rectified the situation. A couple of weeks ago I finally went and I was so disappointed, disappointed in myself that is, this place is gorgeous! Oozing style, glamour and sophistication the décor is stunning, from the rose wallpaper to the candelabra to the elegant tables, the setting certainly promised an opulent night out.
Making the most of local suppliers the menu is quintessentially British with a healthy smattering of global dishes and the portions are generous. Prices are very reasonable too considering this IS Richmond.
We started with a few cocktails as you do. With fun names like Red Hot Lover, Pink & Classy and Summer Blush we settled back on the terrace and soaked in the ambience. The British summertime had turned it on for our visit this evening.
I do like a sharing platter because I’m greedy and I want to try everything. The Mediterranean Platter with Baked Feta, Arancini, Falafel, Roast Vegetables, Beetroot Hummus, Pitta & Baba Ghanoush was fab. I don’t normally like Falafels, I find them too dry, but these were moist and I would definitely have them again.
Asian Platter – Chicken Yakitori, Chilli Squid, Prawn Crackers & Pork Spring Rolls
One of my favourite dishes is a Thai curry so i was delighted to try the lovely Monkfish & Tiger Prawn Curry – Thai Coconut Spices, Sugar Snaps, Coriander Naan & Jasmine Rice, it didn’t disappoint.
My companion tried the equally delicious Miso Cod Fillet – Sautéed Green Beans & Sesame Pak Choy.
For those who can’t make up their mind what to choose to finish their meal there is a dessert platter! – with Cheesecake, Creme Brûlée, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Chocolate & Almond Cake & Ice Cream there is sure to be something to please all palates. There are of course individual desserts too if you know what you like.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening in the luxurious surroundings of Rock & Rose. The food was divine, the service excellent and there seemed to be such a great vibe in the restaurant. This place is definitely one not just for locals. It is a destination restaurant for those wanting to escape the city and explore nearby Kew Gardens or Richmond Park. Suffice to say we will be returning sooner rather than later!
