City Cruises – River Thames

One of the best ways to see any city is by its waterways and London is no exception. The river Thames provides a unique setting from which to see this magnificent city in all its glory.

Recently I was lucky enough to see the sights of London aboard a City Cruise’s boat. This however was not your standard tour boat but a fully-fledged floating restaurant with cabaret and dancing. Departing from Westminster Pier, you are taken along the Thames towards the Thames Barrier and back again. on a cruise that lasts around 3 and a 1/2 hours. I have to say that seeing London lit up in all its splendour from the river is something I never get tired of seeing.

Upon arrival my companion and I were greeted with a glass of bubbly and taken to our table. We had a magnificent view and I highly recommend…..(click here to continue)

RS Hispaniola – The Embankment

On the Embankment is another boat that does great food. This one is on a permanent mooring and is fine-dining with great views and an open terrace on the river.
It was a lovely, sunny evening as my guest and I arrived and boarded the Hispaniola. You have to love London when the sun is shining, don’t you?
We were seated at a beautifully set table and eager to enjoy some good food and engaging company. Our first courses arrived quickly. I’d ordered the foie gras and my companion had the smoked mackerel with marinated beetroot, beetroot mousse and beetroot crisps. The foie gras was meltingly soft and a real triumph. My companion loved her mackerel but as per our other cruise, she was definitely eyeing up my plate! For our mains I chose the ox cheeks with dauphinoise potatoes and sautéed spring cabbage. My guest had the seared sea trout with puy lentils, vegetable brunoise and bisque broth…..(click here to continue reading)
